I called these guys to get a quote about some automotive keys. This guy was totally rude and unprofessional, I'm glad he was on the other end of the phone and not in front of me. Would have gone badly. You've been warned
Very strange experience. Please check the full reviews for this business, many experiences like mine. Filled out Yelp's online quote form just got a two 3 word response "Need More Info". When I tried calling them, they wanted my address right away before giving a quote. When I said no thanks, they got very rude and started saying "we are professional people and need to come to your house". I told them politely thank you, but we'll go a different direction, and he started raising his voice about how I wasn't respecting him as a professional and they need to see the job.
Everybody else just quoted the job - some asked for photos, but nobody else insisted on coming to my house first.
I locked myself out of my home in Menlo Park. I was so happy that San Carlos lock and key were prompt and had someone at my house with in 30 minutes! Great customer service and very professional! Highly recommend!!
Fast and professional service. Within 20mins the technician was to me and had me in my car in less than five. He made it look so simple. Definitely recommend and will call again if needed.. Hopefully not too soon. Lol
Locked my keys in my car, they came really quick and prices are great!
I wish we had checked this guy out first. When there are many reviews scoring very low--not just one or two outliers--watch out.
We called this guy in 2017 to fix a broken lock and he came, charged over $200 for a temporary fix, said he needed a new part and would come back. Stupidly I broke a rule and paid without the job complete. I waited a week, then called. He said the part still didn't come in, to give it some more time. The lock broke again and of course he didn't call or come back. When I called again, he acted like a different person, like I was trying to rip him off, he was extremely rude, paranoid, and even threatened us if we wrote a bad review. It was a bit scary, and we considered notifying the police but didn't. I figured it was a lost cause then called Keylo and got it fixed. Keylo wondered if someone messed with the lock, because it wasn't done right. Keylo fixed it for less than what San Carlos Lock and Key charged. The $200 we spent on San Carlos Lock and Key was wasted on an expensive lesson.
The other broken rule was not looking him up on Yelp first. After everything was over I looked him up and I saw all the reviews describing exactly the same behavior. OK, stupid me, lesson learned. The bizarre part is why he's like this? Why the personality change from normal to psycho? I don't even expect people to be super cheerful--we all have our personalities--but why the attack dog paranoia? I won't say where he's from, but let's just say he's not native born in San Carlos. Where he's from is ripping people off okay? I guess he preys on fools like us who don't check with our neighbors, NextDoor, or Yelp first.
San Carlos Lock and Key, if you read these reviews, take note: If you do right with people, you sleep better at night.
This company provided me a great service.
I got my key locked in the car. Steve came to me after 20 minutes and gave me reasinable price. He was very informed and service oriented.
I will definitely recommend sancarloslockandkey
Ben did an amazing job of removing a u-lock on my bike after I inadvertently lost my only key. He was quick, efficient and friendly. I would recommend him to anyone who need a reliable and friendly locksmith.
I found San Carlos lock and key online.
Ben came to me within 20 minutes. He was very friendly and professional. He opened my house without breaking anything and I was also satisfied from the price.
I will definitely call San Carlos lock and key again
OUTRAGEOUSLY PRICED!!!! Front door would not open, took 10 mins to open and replace a .20 cent part and charged Almost $400.00. I will never use them again!
Eddie came by this morning to realign the strike plate for our deadbolt. Eddie came out within 30 minutes of my call, and did a thorough and fabulous job for us. Eddie is very friendly and engaging, and I am very pleased to give him five stars! The price was as discussed on the phone, all great!
Super quick - unlocked in two mins. Thirty from phone call. Great service!
Eddie was great! Helped me out of a real jam late on a Saturday! Love these guys! Thanks!
Avoid. Fraudsters and will charge you an insane amount after the fact.
29 service fee
165 for labor fee
189 for the knob replacement
This is to open a locked door. Just a regular door knob lock, no smart lock gadgetry. Go figure.
I wish I had read more of the reviews before going with this company. I had an emergency and needed a locksmith to come out and open the door as no one was available to drive to the house. I tried calling the other higher rated locksmith companies in the area first but none of them answered the phone, eventually I made my way through the list and got a hold of San Carlos Lock and Key and they quoted me $29 for the house call plus another $35+ to open the door. Once they got there they said instead of $35 it would cost $265 to open the door because the lock we had on the door (plus the $29 for the house call), so almost $300!! We just have a normal front door lock like everyone else has, it's not like it's a bank vault, gimme a break! If this wasn't an emergency I'd definitely not have paid for their service but I had to do it and the guy opened the door in less than 60 seconds. We were able to negotiate the price down to $240 by paying cash but I felt cheated and robbed by these guys. The fastest, easiest, $240 anyone has ever made. I do not encourage anyone to do business with them, ever, ever! BEWARE!!
Cheater. They give you a "quote" by phone, let you wait for hours after the time the promised to be there, then charge you 10x more than they quoted because "the lock is a smartlock type" (for a standard lock type). I seriously mean 10x the quote. They know you're desperate (otherwise I wouldn't be calling a locksmith) and take advantage of you.
5 star reviews are certainly paid for.
This is the worst locksmith ever. I feel cheated, robbed.
DO NOT EVER USE THIS SERVICE
I tried calling Keylo Locksmith and Google messed up and directed me to this company instead. Jay answered the phone and never mentioned that he wasn't Keylo even though i asked when he answered the phone if i reached Keylo.
Jay came out and looked at the doors in question. He took pictures and told me he would follow up and charged me $99 and said it would go towards any work completed. After a week i called back to follow up since i had not heard back from him. When i got a hold of Keylo he explained to me that there is no Jay at their location.
So now i have paid $99 for nothing but a guy to come out take two pictures and do nothing for me but waist my time.
How can you trust a locksmith that lies to your face and doesn't follow up on the work you paid them for?
I will continue to go to Keylo for all my lock needs. They have always been honest and know what they are doing with reasonable prices.
I went to the store to get copies of my house key and low and behold they're closed...and the hours on yelp says open 24/7. I called to confirm if he's open or not and he told me to go Home Depot. Then has the nerve to call me back hours later and started harassing me on the phone several times. WTH?? I'm forced to give him A star but really he doesn't deserve to have ANY customers. You've got major issues...get anger management!!
Quoted me 30 mins to come to my car. Hour later, no one showed. I called someone else.
Asked for help to open my door lock in the evening. Was told he will arrive in 15 mins.
Waited an hour and still no one came. Called again and said will arrive in 10 mins. Did arrive in 10 mins, opened the lock in 2 mins, and charged for almost $400. That is $200/min.
Very professional, ontime, got the job done prefoessionally and quickly, no fuss. Would highly recommend him to anyone. He had a great attitude
I called them when I locked my keys in my car at work. Jay came out and helped me within 40 mins. Super nice guy
Be careful with the 4 and 5 star reviews you're reading on here; this company offers "discounts" on their prices if you're willing to give a good review--reviews they don't necessarily deserve. Read below for a detailed report on my terrible experience with this business.
This review is specific to the emergency after hours lock repair/locksmith service, as opposed to their storefront operation (lock and key purchase, key duplication, etc).
My wife and I called late in the evening after being accidentally locked out of one of the internal rooms in our apartment. During the phone conversation, the price quote for service was never fully clarified; the person who'd answered the call was dismissive and tried to rush us through what the service included (and what sort of payment options they took).
We needed to get into the locked door, though, and no other local locksmiths were available, so we went ahead and asked them to come out.
The technician claimed the lock on our door was impossible to unlock without the key, and that it would have to be drilled (I'm less likely to trust this was the case based on how they'd treated us in general, but maybe so...I'm obviously not a locksmith); they quoted us $354 and were unwilling to accept anything but cash. This is even though their website suggests they accept credit cards, and was one of the things the person on the phone had tried to avoid when we asked about it. Ultimately the technician required us to drive out with him and find an ATM in the middle of the night (this is also something they've made several other people do, you'll see it in the other reviews).
At the end of the voyage to the ATM, the technician then said he'd drop the (cash-only) bill by $50 if we'd give them a good Yelp review! He actually asked me to pull out my phone on the spot and do it in front of him. Several other reviewers have also claimed this was the case. This points to a clear lack of integrity on their part, especially when combined with the awful customer service we'd received over the phone; it's also against the Yelp terms of service for business owners. Obviously I declined that "offer", so that I could leave an honest review instead.
Bottom line, our experience suggests this business lacks integrity and (at least over the phone) anything even remotely approaching decent customer service. I'd also urge you to take the 4 or 5 star reviews you see here with a grain of salt; they could easily have come from people being paid to leave good reviews.
I was looking for a luggage lock for tomorrow morning's flight on a Saturday night, and no other locksmith was open. Luckily I found San Carlos Lock and Key, where I found the lock I was looking for.
I called them and was quoted "20-25 minutes. Called them 45 minutes later and was told they were on the way. Then tried calling 1 1/2 hrs after initial call and it went right to voicemail. They left me stranded and never called back. It was stressful enough to be locked out but waiting and waiting was very upsetting. Very unreliable!
San Carlos Lock And Key is an awesome operation. **** answered my call promptly and graciously, promised to be onsite within an hour, showed up on time, diagnosed my issues in moments, found a cost-effective solution for me and fixed my problem all in a matter of a couple hours. What a pleasant experience. I recommend **** for his excellent service, expertise and overall expediency. I'll definitely be passing out ****** cards to my friends in the Bay. You can't go wrong here!
I had dead bolt locks put on a couple of doors. The guys were very professional with fast service. Called on Wednesday around 1 pm & they offered to come out at 3 pm.
I needed to get some key cores redone on a Saturday and a high security key for my Lexus. Took care of me on quick notice pretty late in the day, for a great price. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the store was open 24 hours a day. Really nice to have a local shop open on the weekends.
Awesome service at 11:45 pm on a holiday weekend. 150% recommend them-professional, timely and charming!
Very fast respond time and quick service. We were able to get back into our apartment in about 15 minutes after making the call.
Great experience. Easy to communicate with. Arrived early, resolved the issue quickly and easily where other locksmiths said it will take hours. Very reasonable rate.
